O'Neill: One Or Two Deadline Day Loan Offers But Not Right For Us
Thursday, 4th Feb 2021 19:03

Town general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill says the Blues turned down loan interest for “one or two” players on deadline day.

Kayden Jackson was the subject of interest from Huddersfield shortly before Monday’s 11pm end to the window, while Salford City were keen on Jack Lankester, Doncaster and Fleetwood showed tentative interest in Toto Nsiala and a host of clubs, including Peterborough, were said to be eyeing Jon Nolan, although with no approaches understood to have been made for the midfielder.

"There was interest shown by some clubs in loan deals for one or two of our players on deadline day," O’Neill told the club site.

"I’m not going into details on who asked about who but we felt they weren’t the right deals for us.”

A number of the Blues’ youngsters went out on loan over the course of the window with Brett McGavin joining Corrie Ndaba at Ayr United on Monday, the Irishman having made the move to Scotland earlier in the month.

Idris El Mizouni joined Grimsby and Adam Przybek went to Chesterfield on temporary moves, while the most senior exit was Janoi Donacien’s switch to Fleetwood on the same basis. Ben Folami moved on loan to the Melbourne Victory in his native Australia in October.

"Brett, Corrie, Idris and Adam have gone out to maintain their development and play first-team football, which is what they need at this stage of their career,” O’Neill continued.

“It’s the same with Ben Folami in Australia and Janoi wanted some game time. That's why we let those players go out.

"It was vital that we managed to maintain the squad though, keep the competition for places as strong as possible and give us a chance to kick on over the second half of the season."

Who's he kidding - a chance to kick on playing one up front 🥴
Keep the competition for places - we have no rb - even the one who's playing or cover

Blah blah blah. This Saturday should give all the supporters some inkling as to what to expect for the next half of the season. Two up front or is that too much to expect.
You can go back to sleep now O' Neil.

We may all have idiosyncratic ideas particularly about systems, strategy and tactics for teams and on match days ; but then as supporters who hasn't ?
It is a shame , however , that cynicism ,sarcasm and damning critiques appear to dominate ,especially when LO'N has provided honest unvarnished detail of goings on which are quite the norm in Tfr interludes .
Let's hope for good things on match days henceforth !

Competition for places how funny. We all know Lambert will continue with his favourites no matter how bad they play. For example Judge!!! enough said.

I hate to say it but Norwich have Stuart Webber (who is very well regarded in the game) and we have this amateur. And it's reflected in where our noisy neighbours are situated currently compared to us.

I'm sure O'Neill is doing his best and I'm not criticising his good intentions or efforts. However, given how far we've tumbled since he took on the role, it does appear he's not cut out to play his part in turning the ship around.

Never understood why people take stories like this as an opportunity to have a pop at LON. These are such nothing comments, absolute non story, yet all these unnecessary comments! Might not agree with how the club is run but some of this is just nonsense

Clegg....Milne....and now Mr O Neil. any news seems to be bad news these days.
All being paid to try and soften the blow with any reasoning that can be used. To cover up for the poor results and poor progress. Keeping the squad competitive ? Or allowing just a few positions up for grabs ? Most of us know who will be guaranteed a place in the team and that has kept everything stuck. A tried, tested and failed system of how things operate at this club which has bought no success what so ever. we can,t even compete in a cup competition anymore let alone compete for promotion. Green shoots ?

Will still play the same one up front rubbish no matter who we signed. Until Shambert is gone it will just keep on being a complete mess .Blackpool will kill us on Saturday and the moron in charge will just say how well we played again. Sad sad times at Ipswich town.

Requests from team at the same level or higher approaching us for loan players? Does that not prove that in the footballing world it is appreciated that we have some good players, so why are they not performing for us? (It's a loaded question, I know the answer)

Janoi needs game time. Goes to a better team. Straight into first 11. MoM. We don't have a right back. You couldn't make it up.
