Finney headed the hosts in front in the 22nd minute before Tom Lowery doubled their advantage nine minutes later. Things went from bad to worse for Morecambe when Sam Lavelle saw red in the 34th minute and Charlie Kirk increased Crewe's advantage four minutes later.

Lowery almost scored again four minutes before half-time but his effort from the edge of the area clattered the post. Crewe eventually got their fourth, though, with Ryan Wintle firing in after 58 minutes. Finney added gloss to the scoreline with his second and Crewe's fifth in added time. The result saw Morecambe slip to the bottom of the table.

Top scorer Eoin Doyle notched his 17th goal of the season as leaders Swindon beat Mansfield 1-0.

It took the Irishman 23 minutes to find the net for the seventh game in succession, converting Kaiyne Woolery's cross from close range.

Ebou Adams bagged a brace against his former club as Forest Green beat Leyton Orient 4-2. Midfielder Adams, who spent the second half of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at the London club, set the ball rolling in the 15th minute when he slammed in the rebound after Liam Shephard's effort had been saved.

Orient caretaker boss Ross Embleton was sent to the stands in the moments after the goal, while visiting boss Mark Cooper received a yellow card. Adams got his and Forest Green's second in the 33rd minute before Matty Stevens made it 3-0 two minutes before the interval.
