Ex-Boss Hurst Named Scunthorpe Manager
Monday, 13th May 2019 17:22

Former Blues boss Paul Hurst has been named the new manager of Scunthorpe United with Chris Doig joining him as his assistant.

Hurst, 44, has been out of work since being sacked by Town in October having achieved just one win in his 15 games in charge.

The former Grimsby and Shrewsbury boss takes over at Glanford Park with the Iron having been relegated to League Two on the final day of the season.

I'm glad our paths won't meet again in the league next year, or cup I hope. Never want to see that man again.

Scunthorpe and Paul Hurst deserve each other. I hope you send them down to the National League.

Yep slade1 great bloke he was, managed to replace very good players with players who weren't up to it and managed to destroy the team and moral.

Good luck to him, he is at the level where he belongs but unfortunately because of him we are at a level where we do not belong.

Good luck Paul.
Now don't sell your best defender and both strikers and recruit 10 players from a lower league.

I'm sure a few lessons learned from his time with Town.

Hurt, hood luck. You were pushed out here when results we're improving, if you had been given more time, I believe we would have stayed up

He must have learned from his mistakes and young enough to come again.

How apt that his new club has his name in it 😂

Good luck PH, played some good stuff in patches and should have been given a few more games, needs to off load that plank Doig though.

On another matter heard today that Stoke are very keen on Bishop, according to him! and 1 & 2 others by all accounts.

He was a disaster at our club but from a players point of view Doig was a bigger problem!!!

Pleased to see Paul Hurst back in management - one bad experience doesn't make him a bad manager - we all make mistakes its how you learn from it - Best of luck Paul

Maybe he will ask for Chambers & Skuse, as this is their level of football

I wonder if he's what their supporters wished for? But wish him well. If the Scunnie's owner/board do one thing, then it should be don't attempt to implement too many major changes too quickly. Better to go for evolution rather than revolution - as ME would probably advise!

He will succeed again, his fault was a lack of experience at Championship level and an understanding of the need for extra quality in certain areas that you don't get from lower league players. But a large majority wanted young and hungry.

He was unfortunately set-up to fail and tried to move away from recruiting journeymen but like the Plot to the “damned united” following Mick McCarthy was like following Don Revie, the players were always going to cause some friction, perhaps deputy doig didn't help but with little help from ME in doing deals that took weeks we were always starting off the back foot.

Some disliked his comments on Andre Dozzel, he was always complimentary to the lads skill but doubted his fitness and robustness at Championship level, I think to a large extent he was right here as well but that doesn't mean Andre can't go on and become a top player at Town.

As I have said in previous posts PH wasn't my choice I advocated for one person Graham Potter who I thought was far more suitable for us. But I have no ill feeling to PH, he took his belief and philosophy that was successful for him at other clubs and tried to apply that here.

He will learn from his experience here and no doubt go on to become a very good manager who I am sure will get a team at some stage into the Championship and be competitive.

Again he explained that not all of his signings were made to go into the team at the start and that it may take some time to progress these.

Gwion Edwards has been a reasonable signing
I think Toto and Jon Nolan will go on to be good players for us.
I like Harrison but he picks up too many niggly injuries for me
Donacien can also come good if played at fullback
Kayden Jackson........well I need to be convinced, I haven't seen anything that suggests he will be able to play and be a consistent threat at Championship level, maybe Div 1, but the jury is out.

Otherwise I wish PH well and sorry that it didn't turn out better for us all.

Good luck to him. Steep learning curve at a Town and hopefully he will have learnt a lot. That said, hopefully he won't work with an owner who is happy to sell key players before the season starts and only bring in replacements after the season starts. Just one senior CB in the squad for last years opening fixture. Incompetence at its best.

Keane, Jewell, McCarthy, Hurst; it is entirely possible to make a sensible case for their appointments at the time that they were appointed. However, although McCarthy came close to success, all failed. One has to wonder why, the obvious answer being ME, yet he is a successful businessman who must know how to organise a business and motivate the manager.

I think we should wish him well and worry about ourselves. I don't think anyone gets anything out of being bitter about what happened while he was here.

Why do people wish him all the best when he ruined our club? Strange....
